I love this, Tony. It brings back many fond memories of Saturday’s at the movies. In addition to the feature film, there was always a serial of some kind.
When I was about that age the neighborhood boys and I walked about a mile to Del Oro theater to see the westerns on Saturday afternoon. Then we played cowboys and Indians mimicking what we had seen. My mother didn't like that our play include a imaginary bar where we put our foot up on the imaginary brass rail and drank our imaginary whiskey. We had a colt 44 cap gun on each hip. "Del Oro" translates to "of the Gold" A few blocks down Mill Street from the Del Oro was the Owl Saloon that was open to the side walk. You could smell the booze as you walked by and see the spittoons and brass rail. My mother always hustled me by the Owl. A piece of trivia was that Mill street (It ended at a gold mine stamp mill) and Main street were paved with Gold. Mine waste rock was used to initially pave the streets and people were finding gold that was missed in the paving rock when it was first paved.
